madison county

……….

this blog lives! after a long, adventurous summer leading conservation crews in the upper peninsula (isle royale) and california (eldorado), i returned to good old iowa in mid august. sorry, not taking the time to edit my summer pictures for here. there’s just far too many (8 weeks worth!!) and i don’t have the patience for that. anyway. somehow it’s already mid september and i’m still getting back into taking regular pictures of regular life again.

well, here’s a good start. last weekend darin and i decided to be tourists and visited madison county, iowa. bridges, john wayne, camping, sunsets, sunrises, hills!!, cafes, sunflowers. we arrived in the evening, set up camp at the small and cozy pammel state park and then explored a couple of the six bridges. winterset is the birthplace of john wayne and the setting for many of the scenes from the epic meryl streep/clint eastwood flick, bridges of madison county. we stopped at the recently remodeled northside cafe for coffee, lunch and a root beer. on our last morning we got up for the sunrise so i could snap away many more photos. i really had a great time and the bridges reminded me just a little bit of vermont and new hampshire. i want to come back in the fall because the hills will probably be gorgeous with foliage.
