on a cloudy december day, rain looming in the grey clouds, we drove out to Darin’s grandparents’ farm. patches of snow could still be found among the grasses and half-frozen mud was everywhere. they’ve got fields and woods, and cows for neighbors, but it’s been a long time since they were active dairy farmers. walked all around the old farm while i snapped away with my camera. it was the perfect sort of december day and it smelled like snow and woodsmoke. we went inside afterward to eat sloppy joes and play cards.
