the cabin turned hostile on us toward the end of last week. in the middle of the bitter cold spell our stove pipes started billowing smoke into our cabin. turns out two things were going on: we hadn’t cleaned the outer chimney at all in the past year (stupid, stupid, stupid), and one of the older inside pipes was slightly dented and suddenly decided to leak smoke. needless to say, we escaped the cabin until yesterday. it was still cold all day, but we pushed through and fixed the pipes.
while the cabin thawed we put up our first ever christmas tree! we found a cute little fraiser fir for $10 while visiting my sis in South Portland over the weekend. it’s just the right size for our tiny space. i’ve had fun adding lights galore to the cabin and making it feel festive. we will be here all through next week except for christmas eve and christmas day. a holiday season in the cabin! i’ve been busy working on art projects as christmas gifts. it’ll be a low-budget christmas this year. i’ve really been forced to appreciate the non-material virtues of the season more than ever. well, at least i’m trying my best to embrace it!
