in the days before Christmas some of my family were able to come out to the woods, see our cabin decorated for the holidays, and go for walks through the ice, snow, and slush. i had fun seeing my nieces in particular. they came out twice and really enjoyed playing in the snow and looking around (they are 5 and 3 years old). the whole week of Christmas the weather was a bit iffy. It warmed up and rained just before the holiday, then it quickly froze over again. The last couple days it warmed up again and we just had some slushy rain all last night. Today the temperatures are going to drop and everything will freeze up again. I’m ready for the cold this time, though. for Christmas Darin bought us a heated mattress pad and it is MAGICAL. the heat comes from underneath you, rather than above if you’re using an electric blanket. it’s so enticingly warm. i turn it on early in the morning so i can sleep in a little bit instead of making a fire at 5 or 6. my mom also made us a flannel-lined quilt so we have even more warmth to cozy up to. bring it on, cold temps!
