before the storm

the day after christmas we ventured to bear brook for a walk among the white pines and hemlocks. with just a dusting of snow, the woods were quiet and patient and still very much green. bright ferns peaked through the leaves and snow, for only a day later they would be covered with a thick white blanket from the season’s first nor’easter.

it is so exciting to be back in new hampshire and to actually have SNOW this winter!
